Haseldine Shield Origin

Brian Haseldine was a past player at the club. He donated an award in his name to players that were pushed up or down the grades and therefore had no chance to win a batting or bowling award in one grade. For this reason, all performances by a player in a season could still result in them winning an award.

The Shield originates from Mt. Lawley Suburban Turf CC in 1973/74. It was then transferred to Northern Suburbs CC when Mt. Lawley STCC amalgamated with Highgate CC in 1975/76. After Northern Suburbs CC became the Bassendean CC in 1980/81, the Shield was once again transferred.

The original Shield is still in the club’s trophy cabinet today. It is pictured below.

As the title suggests, the Haseldine Shield is awarded to the club best and fairest player for a season. It is the highest individual accolade a player at BCC can achieve and is presented annually at our Presentation Night.

Up until the 2017/18 season, T20 games and points were included in the points system, however, a slight tweak to our constitution now means T20 games are not included. This was introduced so that players who played T20 games were not given an advantage of accumulating points from an extra 3-4 games.
