James Martin
Sapper James Martin, a former cricketer at BCC, was deployed on his first operation in June 2012.
At 21 years old, he and two other soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in August that year.
James Played 27 games for our club from 2006/07 to 2008/09.
In honour of his memory, our club introduced the James Martin Highest Partnership Award in 2013/14. Each season the two players who shared the highest partnership for the club will see their names embroidered on the James Martin plaque that is on display in our clubrooms.
James’ high school John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School introduced The James Martin Scholarship for children of former and current Defence Force personnel on April 24, 2020.
The scholarship will be awarded to two prospective students enrolling in the school for Year 7, 2021, providing a 100 per cent remission of tuition fees until Year 12, 2026.
